Admissions & Parking
Exhibitors may enter through the Exhibitor/Farm Entrance near the Yellow Lot. Fair admission is required and as an exhibitor, you can purchase discounted season and parking passes in advance. The prices are: daily Fair admission $5 each, Season Pass $30 each, Daily Parking $3 each (for the light right across from the horse barn), Parking Season Pass $25 each. Janna Krostek will have these passes available for purchase on check-in night (Wednesday, August 26, 2009).

You will be allowed to park outside the back of the barn for the Friday goat show only. On all other days you can park right outside the barn fence to feed and clean your pens, then your vehicle must be moved, relocated to a paid public lot. YOU WILL BE TOWED IF YOU DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE FAIR'S PARKING RULES. See Fair Map for more information.

Mandatory Vet Check
All livestock coming to the Fair MUST pass a vet check done no more than 7 days prior to entry (see Fair rules). A vet check can be done privately through your own vet (health certificate) or you can attend the usual FREE vet-check provided by the Fair on Wed., August 26, 2009 from 4:00PM-8:30PM.

If you are entering events or exhibits at the Fair that begin before Friday afternoon, such as the Alaska Mini Goat Cache's One-Day Group Milking Competition or Obstacle Course for All Ages, or if you plan to pen your goats at the Fair or enter any other exhibits or events before Friday afternoon, these are your only two options.

For exhibitors of the Alaska Mini Goat Cache's Get Happy ADGA (dairy goat) show only, there is now a third option, thanks to Laura Manary, President of Alaska Mini Goat Cache, and Dr. Teresa Beck of North Star Animal Hospital.

Dr. Beck is willing to come before the show, between the hours of 8:00AM and 9:30AM, Fri., August 28, 2009. YOU MUST BE PROMPT AND QUICK AS SHE MUST LEAVE BY 10:00AM AND NO NEW ANIMALS WILL BE ACCEPTED INTO THE WAIT LINE FOR EXAMINATION AFTER 9:30AM! There will be NO EXCEPTIONS. This means that if Dr. Beck can't get to all the animals, even if they were there by 9:30AM, the unchecked animals are going to be out of luck as there is no alternative at that point and they will not be permitted entry by the Fair.

The anticipated cost of Dr. Beck's arrangement will be a minimum of $20/herd up to Dr. Beck's total quoted fee (if only one herd shows up). To arrange to use this service and get more information, please email Laura@BoreasAcres.com or call her at 907.745.6010.

Every goat is vital to meeting sanction, so Laura has gone out of her way to arrange this courtesy. Please express your gratitude to Dr. Beck for her gracious offer and plan ahead so you are not prohibited from entering the show due to a delayed or missed vet check.

Helpful Tips
Dairy does may participate in the Alaska Mini Goat Caches ADGA One-Day Group Milking Competition August 26-27, Obstacle Course for All Ages August 27, Get Happy! ADGA Show August 28, and the Fairs Open Livestock Shows on Saturday, August 29.

Dairy bucks may participate in the Alaska Mini Goat Caches ADGA Show August 28.

Per Fair rules, bucks cannot be kept in the Livestock Pavilion. Intact males need to stay in an outdoor pen, crate, truck, or trailer. If you only have a few bucks, consider putting them on a lead and bringing them in just before their class and hold them, then load them back up when the classes are done.

Wethers of any type can be shown in the Obstacle Course for All Ages on Thursday, August 27, and the Fairs Open Livestock Shows on Saturday, August 29.

Pens - Be sure to submit your Pen Request Forms to the Fair by August 21.

Be sure to bring water buckets and feeders (plastic milk crates work well for hay). For those penning their animals throughout the full 5-day period (first entry), hay and bedding is usually provided by the Fair. However, it is important to beware that sudden changes in feed may upset your animals digestive systems. Plan to some food to which they are already accustomed to help them transition.

You may wish to decorate your pens. There is a bar along the top that is shared with the pen on the backside. Please be mindful of the goats ability to reach and eat or deface displays. Per Fair rules, NO SELLING in the Livestock Pavilion. Please see Fair rules regarding appropriate dcor and limitations on advertising.

If you are concerned about bio-security, bring BLUE tarps to cover the floors & sides of your pens. Most of the pens are 6' x 6' so you need a tarp that is at least 12' in one direction and LOTS of zip ties. Plan on at least one tarp per pen, but consider that your pen may have one open side if the other herd does not tarp. For this reason, consider bringing an extra tarp for this end pen.

If you have small goats, you may also want to put up chicken wire around the inside of the pen to keep your goats in/others out. Per Fair rules, you may NOT block the view of the front of the pens, so flexible, hexagonal chicken wire works well. Little ones tend to want to try to climb through bars, even going around the edges of the tarps. And of course, some smaller goats are very good jumpers so if you have dams & kids separated, be mindful of the possibility of them going over the short pens to get back together!

Consider providing hand sanitizer for visitors to use when they come to pet your goats. A small pump bottle can be secured to the front of your pen to help minimize the spread of disease for both humans and animals.
